The Most Enjoyable Builds Start When You Make A Team.

I know we might sound like a broken record but this one is worth repeating - our clients having an enjoyable building experience is why we do what we do, it’s our business purpose.

And creating a team to build your new home is the key to this.

In our early days as a custom builder we had many fully designed plans come across our desk to be ‘quoted’- and don’t get me started on the word quote as there is so much more to providing pricing information on a home. Anyway I digress, we would go through the process of ‘quoting’ these homes and the only input we could really have at the end of the day was a price. We couldn’t suggest different material, a different way of constructing, a simple change of a window size as all of these decisions had been made yet these same decisions affect the cost that we were providing. Budgets were nearly always exceeded, and usually by a lot.

It left potential clients feeling that their dreams of building were unachievable.

It left us feeling like were just a price on a piece of paper, adding no value other than a price.

It left a designer’s hard work and craft on piece of paper.

It was then that we knew there had to be a better way. Not only a better way for the client, but for us as the builder and also the designer who had put so much work and effort in. Everyone wants to see the design come to fruition.

This is where we knew we had to help prospective clients build their team, before building their home.

We started to find designers we could collaborate with, they aligned with our values, they had the same frustrations and the same vision. So here we had 2 parts to the puzzle. Next was educating potential clients that this team of designer, builder and client would be the foundation to creating their dream home.

We love a sporting analogy here Saxony and there are a few Port Adelaide fans in our midst. Mark Williams didn’t win Port Adelaide’s 2004 AFL premiership on his own. Building a home is a lot like playing a game of footy, you can have a great coach but you need the full team to both, play their roles and work together. Being part of a successful team, working together to achieve great things is one of life’s most rewarding experiences. We have all heard those Grand Final stories when people reminisce about their sporting days gone by, more often than not it’s the members of the team, how they worked together and the culture of their club that was the biggest contributor to their success.

We look forward to giving you a closer look at our process—from early planning to construction—plus the journeys we’ve shared with our clients in coming blogs.
